Huawei Ascend P1 S
Huawei was one of the first companies out of the gate to launch a
new device at CES 2012, and it revealed the new Ascend P1 S (and its chubbier
kin, the P1). The P1 S lays claim to the "world's thinnest
smartphone" title, knocking the Fujitsu ARROWS ES IS12F off of its perch.
The
Ascend P1 S measures a scant 6.7mm thick, and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core
processor with 1GB of RAM. It has a 4.3-inch, qHD (540 x 960 pixel) Super
AMOLED display and is equipped with an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 1.3
megapixel front camera.
Interestingly
enough, Huawei is launching the Ascend P1 S with Android 4.0 Ice Cream
Sandwich, not with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and promising an upgrade later, as
most manufacturers have done thus far. The Android 4.0 build on the P1 S is
unmolested, and offers a standard Android user experience.
Build quality on both the P1 and P1 S, which are functionally
identical apart from thickness and battery capacity, is quite good. These don't
feel like cheap devices, though the high-gloss material they are constructed
from does get smudged up easily.
The Ascend P1/P1 S comes in metallic black, ceramic white and
cherry-blossom pink. The Huawei Ascend P1/P1 S will be available in
Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East, and China from
April 2012.
