Free Android application to backup your SMS to GMAIL

Accidentally deleted important SMS? Switch to new device and want to have all your SMS on new device?
here is a free android based application which makes your backup work easier. it will automatically backup your sms data to your gmail account. before installing and doing the backup setup you have to enable the IMAP access in your gmail account.

how to back up text messages using my phone

after setting up the IMAP you have to download any of the below free application in your android mobile and configure the setup as per the software provider. once you finish all the setup then the application sync your messages to your Gmail mailbox.

SMS Backup +

(Jan Berkel)

Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone (MMS not supported yet).
Remember to enable IMAP in Gmail and set the correct time/zone.
If you get a "You do not have permission to..." error or other problems during the first connect check the website for workarounds.
Please note that auto backup might not work reliably when SMS Backup+ is installed on the SD card. Future version will hopefully fix this, in the meantime please move it back to phone memory if possible.
For those of you worried about app permissions: there is a detailed explanation in the FAQ section of the website.
A few people have asked about a donate option - there is one (via PayPal), it's hidden in the "About" screen.
Also, please consult the FAQ on the website before sending me an email.

This application allows you to automatically backup SMS messages on your Android device to Gmail.
You'll be able to browse and search your incoming and outgoing messages - neatly put into threads - under the "SMS" label in Gmail. To browse your backed up messages, log into Gmail and click on "SMS" in the labels box, which is located in the left sidebar.
Prerequisites
You need to have a Gmail account with IMAP enabled. See the Enabling IMAP Gmail help page to learn how to enable IMAP for your Gmail account.
Installation
SMS Backup can be downloaded and installed from Android Market. Go directly to the Android Market listing by clicking the following link on your device: Android Market listing. Click the "Install" button and confirm the required permissions.
Configuration
After starting SMS Backup, enter your Google username and password. Note that the password will be stored unencrypted on your device. It is, however, only used to log into Gmail using a secure SSL connection and is not readable by other applications. See below for a description of the advanced settings.
